Fan me!
Written by Miranda (no comments yet)I recently came across some beautiful fans by a Beijing-based designer, illustrator and photographer named Yong Sun.

I like all of them but…this last quirky one is probably my favorite.

Here’s a funny self-portrait I did one day when I was sitting around with an iPad:
I like how It’s super easy to do and I love the completely unglamorous result!
Got some free time to spare and wanna do one of yourself? Here’s how:
1) Download a free drawing app such as Adobe Ideas.
2) Open the app and paint the background black. That will make the surface of your iPad/iPhone/iPod shiny like a mirror!
3) If you really want to, you can use that shiny mirror and admire how cute you look for a few seconds before starting.
4) Now make sure you are far away enough from your iPad/iPhone/iPod so that your face can be seen (or the part you want to draw can be seen).
5) Trace your facial features using any color you like (except black).
6) Viola! A self portrait is born!
I wanna see your portraits! Please share!
So we’re planning a photoshoot and as we always do, we’ve been looking allllllll around the internet for inspiration. Been finding some absolutely amazing stuff! Here’s some we love:
I don’t know why…but lately…I’ve been really into stamps. Especially ones with crazy color combination like this:
and this:
These are going to heavily influence my next pair of shoes! Stay tuned!
For my upcoming whirlwind trip to Japan, I’ve been making a list of cool stores I must visit and Village Vanguard is one of them. Their website is entirely in Japanese but that doesn’t stop me from taking a quick browse and making a shopping list:
Unfortunately, the Village Vanguard online store does not ship overseas. I will have to mad shop when I get there in person.
Last Monday, I went down to Live Stock to check out the “Smile On Your Brother” exhibition conceived by Mike Giles and Annie Lam and co-curated by Bob Kronbauer. The art show centered around original artwork done on to skateboards.
The idea behind not only the show, but also overall project is to hopefully inspire people to think about their first skateboard and what it meant to them. For many skaters, this still represents a pivotal moment in their lives, with every last little detail, fresh in their minds. Bringing together contemporary artists both in, and affected by the skateboard industry to help raise funds to go towards the first goal of Contributor which is to donate 100 skateboards to disadvantaged youth across Canada in 2009/2010.
Here are some of my favorites:

How to make Mini Pumps Keychain:
Material:
-1 Pair of Mini Doll Shoes
-A Safety Pin OR a Needle
-A Lighter OR A Lighted Candle
-Tweezers
-2 x Earring hoops (It’s the little circle thingy, I think that’s what they call them… You can get them at Arts & Craft store like “Beadswork” or “Micheals”)
-2 x Stainless steel French Hook Ear Wires (You can get them at Arts & Craft store like “Beadswork” or “Micheals”)
Here are the steps:
1) Heat the tip of the safety pin/needle with a lighter/lighted candle. (CAUTION: The pin/needle will get super hot once it’s heated, so make sure your hands are protected, wear a glove or something…)

2) While the pin/needle is still super hot, try to poke it through the back of the doll shoe to make a hole. Yes…I know…it’s tough, but don’t worry, you can do it.
(Miranda lost a shoe when she tried to do it shhh….)
Now…you might need to do this repeat Step 1 and Step 2 a couple of times if your pin/needle is not hot enough. (Repeat Step 1 and Step 2 until you manage to make a hole)
Oh and try not to inhale when you are doing Step 2, because it smells kinda bad.

3) Use a tweezers (I used my finger nails), slightly bend open the earring hoop (the circley looking thingy), hook it into the hole. Use a tweezers and close the earring hoop. Repeat for the other side of your earrings.

4) Attach the French hook ear wires to the earring hops. Repeat for the other side of your earrings.
5) Ta Dah! Now you’ve got a COOL pair of Mini Pumps Earring. If you want your earrings to look EVEN COOLER, you can purchase some Oil Based Paint/Acrylics and paint some designs on it. Enjoy!
Speaking of which…I customized one pair for my sister, but she lost it:(! Maybe I will make one again later and show you guys what the earrings could look like when they’re painted.

It’s a known fact that Ada and I are garbage ladies. We collect cardboard, packing paper, bubble wrap, etc. Basically, we collect other people’s trash. The other day, feeling inspired, Ada made this for me out of …you won’t believe…server packing foam! She salvaged the material and with a small swiss knife, carved out the “wow” for me (yes, I specifically asked for Wow cause I’m lame like that). See how the top of the ‘o’ holds my paper clips? Now I won’t have to dig around in my drawer whenever I need clips!
